Diabetes In Pets
Diabetes is a condition where the body does not produce enough insulin, resulting in blood sugar levels that are too high.
Signs of diabetes typically include:
- Excessive drinking
- Increased urination
- Weight loss despite a good appetite
Overweight cats are prone to developing diabetes, so keeping your pet at an ideal weight is important.
Diabetes is diagnosed when there is a persistently high level of sugar in the blood and urine. Treatment of diabetes includes diet modification and daily insulin injections.
Pets with diabetes are able to live happy, healthy lives with appropriate management and veterinary care. Early intervention is key, so if you notice any changes in your pet’s weight or behavior schedule an appointment with your veterinarian.
